My name is Paula Sobieralski and I am an artist from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
In early 2017, I found myself in my 40th year of life and completely lost. I had been in the same job for years and I no longer loved it as I had in the beginning. I did not spend as much time with my family as I wanted to. And so, during the summer of 2017, I finally listened to my unhealthy nagging unhappiness and decided to make a change. I quit that job of sixteen years and started my own company, Vera + Mordy (named after my 7 year old daughter and 9 year old terrier).
I have never been attracted to traditional jewellery; gold bling never suited me. So I decided to parlay my love for simple watercolour painting techniques into simple yet colourful wearable pieces. Vera + Mordy Handmade Jewellery was born.
The process of creating the jewellery has, and continues to be, a form of daily therapy for me. See the entire process here on the blog.
Experimenting with new techniques and creating new product lines keeps me busy in the workshop, looking to the future, and where it can lead. Even at 40.
